 Riccardo Fenici, MD, PhD

 

Dr. Riccardo Fenici is specialist in Cardiology and in Vascular Surgery.

He is Associate Professor of Cardiology and Director of the Clinical Physiology - Biomagnetism Clinical Research Center, at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart (UCSC) in Rome (Italy).

His research extends in Clinical Electrophysiology, Monophasic Action Potential recording, Computer ECG Analysis, High Resolution ECG, Clinical and Experimental  Magnetocardiography, Magnetic Cardiac Mapping and Multimodal Cardiac Imaging of cardiac electrophysiology for non-invasive preoperative localization of arrhythmogenic substrates, Magnetocardiographic detection of myocardial ischemia. He has also studied risk assessment in WPW patients, Autoimmunity against β-adrenoceptors in patients with silent cardiomyopathy and "idiopathic" arrhythmias, Autonomic Nervous System and Heart Rate Variability. Police Stress.

Since 1979, as Consultant Cardiologist for Magnetocardiography and Electrophysiology at the Italian National Research Council (CNR), Consultant Cardiologist at the PTB, Institute of Berlin (D), Consultant cardiologist for Clinical Magnetocardiography within US National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project [Phase II], has deeply contributed to the development and progress of clinical Magnetocardiography.

Has been national coordinator of three strategic national projects of the Italian Ministry of University and Research  on “Clinical Validation of Magnetocardiography for the electroanatomical imaging of cardiac arrhythmias” granting the development, in collaboration with CardioMag Inc., of the first 36-channel system for unshielded Magnetocardiography in a cardiac catheterization laboratory, installed at the Clinical Physiology - Biomagnetism Clinical Research Center of the Catholic University of Rome, in 2002.

Is inventor of the "Biomagnetically Guided Method For Catheter Ablation Of Cardiac Arrhythmias" and a MCG Mapping Technique under Cardiac Pacing as a calibration method to quantify the accuracy and reliability of MCG functional localization of cardiac sources, [US Patent 5,056,517 (1991)], and of several others patents in the same field: European patent n. 0428 812A1, (1991); Japan Utility Model n. 2554105 released (1997); PCT/IT99/00402 PCT PUB.NO. WO00/33734 PCT PUB. (2000); US Patent 6,527,724, (2003); Australian Patent: # 766302 (2004); “Catheter guidance by magnetocardiographic mapping” Eur. Patent Application 99 959 681.0 – 2305 (2007).

Dr. Fenici is also the founder and local coordinator of the Doctorate school in “New Advanced Technologies for Clinical Physiology and Multimodal Cardiac Imaging”, at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart.

Has been invited visiting scientist at the PTB, Institute of Berlin (D), and at the Helsinki University of Technology and Helsinki University Central Hospital, University, for research in Cardiomagnetism, within the BIRCH Program of the European Community. Has been invited lecturer at the Fysisk Institut of Danemarks Tekniske Universitetet; at the PTI Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR and at the Department of Physics, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Dr. Fenici has authored more than 150 scientific publications in peer-review journals,  more than  50 of them on Clinical and Experimental Magnetocardiography.
